Tryout Tip #1

Tryout season is right around the corner, and what better way to start off then working on your skills and techniques in order to increase your chances of making the team. Starting early is the most important thing that you can do to boost your confidence before tryouts. A majority of candidates wait until the week of tryouts to polish up their cheer skills. This is one of the biggest mistakes that you can make. A true cheerleader is dedicated to the sport during off season just as much as he or she is during the regular competition or performance season. Expecting to learn a back handspring or flawless technique within a one or two week time frame is probably going to set yourself up for disappointment. The last thing that you need during tryouts is the feeling of being unprepared. You should walk into your tryout with full confidence, knowing that you put in the hard work that it takes to make the team. If you are not sure where to start, find a local coach or program that can help to tone your skills and polish your technique. Ask former cheerleaders what they did to prepare for tryouts and do a little research in order to find out the expectations of the team you are trying out for. Give yourself several weeks if not months to prepare yourself for the best possible tryout, without the added anxiety of cramming during tryout week. You will find that you not only have a better tryout, but you will also have an added boost of confidence that comes with being prepared.
